Notable characteristics: Full double blossoms open blush pink and fade to almost pure white. One of our most reliable bloomers. Named for the graceful swan, this sweet and subtle beauty is a delight. First registered in France more than 100 years ago, it still has a place in modern gardens. Vigorous grower.
Cultivar group, hybridizer and year introduced: P. lactiflora, Lemoine, 1907.
Growth habit and size at maturity: Upright, grows to 3′ tall and 3′ wide. Very good stem strength for an old cultivar.
Flower form and size: Double form blossoms, 5″ and upward facing. Excellent variety for cut flowers.
Flower fragrance: Dense, rose-like scent.
Bloom time: Mid to late season peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the second and third week of June.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 3-8.
Plant size: 4-5 ‘eye’ or bud plants with a well developed root system. This size plant will most likely flower its first or second spring in the ground.
