Notable characteristics: Open semi-double yellow with deep maroon flares at the base of the petals. This beautiful hybrid P. lutea tree peony was bred by Dr. David Reath. This tree peony is of particular value for those interested in hybridizing, as both pollen and seeds are fertile. Deer resistant. Herbicide, pesticide, and fungicide free. Grown in Connecticut.
Growth habit and size at maturity (10 years old): Spreading habit, grows to 3.5′ tall and 3′ wide.
Flower form and size: Semi-double form 6″ flowers are upwards facing.
Flower fragrance: Spicy-sweet, slight.
Bloom time: Late American tree peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the end of May to early June.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 4-9.
Plant size: 1 year old grafted tree peonies have 1 woody stem and a proportional root system. This size plant will most likely flower its first or second spring in the ground.
