Notable characteristics: Pink hybrid double with unusual coloring, the hybridizer described it as “shrimp pink.” Others have called it a bright red with coral undertones. Tall growing, one blossom per stem. Needs support in the landscape.
Cultivar group, hybridizer and year introduced: Hybrid group, Freeborn, 1943.
Growth habit and size at maturity: Upright, grows to 3′ tall and 3′ wide.
Flower form and size: Double, 5″ and upward facing. Excellent variety for cut flowers.
Flower fragrance: Very light.
Bloom time: Mid-season hybrid peony, blooms in our USDA zone 6a garden in the first week of June.
Zone hardiness: Proven in USDA zones 3-8.
Plant size: 3-4 ‘eye’ plants with a well developed root system. This size plant will most likely flower its first or second spring in the ground. Please note that because of the dwarf nature of this cultivar that divisions will be smaller than that of other peonies.
