Aesculus x carnea ‘Fort McNair’ Red Horse Chestnut
Variety description: This medium size shade tree features bold spikes of pink flowers with yellow eyes rising above the foliage in mid-spring. It has dark green foliage that emerges light green in spring. The palm-shaped leaves turn yellow in fall.
Height and Spread at Maturity: 25′ tall and 30′ spread in 30 years.
Site requirements: Full sun or part shade location. Prefers moist soils high in organic content, but will grow well in many soil types.
Hardiness: USDA zones 5-9.
Plant size: Grafted tree, 8-12″ with strong central leader.
