Symphytum officinale
Variety description: Comfrey is a perennial herbaceous shrub that is native to Europe and some parts of Asia. It has has a thick, hairy stem, and grows to 2-4′ tall. Its flowers are purple-blue and densely arranged in clusters. The leaves are oblong.
Traditionally comfrey was used on the skin to treat wounds and reduce inflammation from sprains and broken bones. Comfrey roots and leaves contain allantoin, a substance that helps new skin cells grow, along with other substances that reduce inflammation and keep skin healthy.
Comfrey is also a valued companion plant in the garden or orchard. Because of its large, deep root system, it works as a ‘bio-accumulator’ drawing nutrients up from the soil. Mowing the luscious plants down a few times a season and allowing the large leave and stems to compost in place adds valuable organic material to the top soil.
Site requirements and cultivation: Native to moist soils, but will grow in sandy, dry soil as well, and will help to improve such poor soil. Full sun to partial shade. After several seasons the crown can be divided. Comfrey will also self-seed.

Our policy is for 30 days. If 30 days have gone without a trace since the purchase however, we're unable to give you a return or exchange.
